An award-winning boutique luxury asset law firm with extensive knowledge and a focus on providing a bespoke, personal service, Bargate Murray was founded in 2004 by Quentin Bargate, former partner at Simmons and Simmons. Since then, the firm has witnessed steady expansion and is now recognised as one of the leading firms in its field. “We work on all aspects of luxury assets including superyachts, aviation and fine art,” says Quentin. “We are an award-winning firm and we are listed in the new Chambers and Partners Ultra High Net Worth Guide in 2016 in recognition of our expertise within the Ultra High Net worth field.” As a firm, Bargate Murray prides itself on its expert legal advice and absolute discretion. “We have particular expertise in superyacht transactions, including sale and purchase, construction and regulatory issues. We give practical, commercial advice and are approachable and easy to deal with.” Many of its new clients come from word of mouth recommendations whereby clients have praised its approach and service as ‘first class’, and also recommend it to their own clients and business associates Qualifying as a solicitor in 1981, Quentin has spent his career at several top-tier City of London law firms. “I spent 14 years at Simmons and Simmons where I was a Partner and Head of the International Trade and Shipping department as well as a member of the Litigation and Arbitration departments.” It was at Simmons and Simmons that Quentin developed his specialised skills in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution before leaving in 2004 to start his own firm, which in his own words was ‘my lifelong dream’. In addition to being highly-qualified academically, Quentin is also a member of various groups and institutes including the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands Yacht Committee, the London Maritime Arbitrators Association, The Nautical Institute, and the Institute of Directors, besides being a Freeman of the City of London. Bargate Murray’s work is international in scope and includes delivering advice worldwide on numerous luxury asset transactions. “Our clients are both local and international, ranging from major corporates through small businesses and UHNW individuals.” The firm’s wide range of clients include yacht managers, owners’ representatives and shipyards. Projects that they are involved in range from insurance matters to large scale new build projects as well as sale and purchase transactions. “Although we cannot give specific details of current and recent transactions, we are currently involved with a number of very large and prestigious superyacht construction agreements using North European yards, and advisory work regarding the operation of high net worth assets.” Quentin heads up the firm’s Luxury Asset department, where he is assisted by his two business partners, Adam Ramlugon and Mark Needham. “We have a team of associates and trainees who assist us, though the partners remain closely involved in each and every matter, and each client is managed by a Partner on a personal level” Quentin believes in hiring highly-motivated Partners and staff who work with clients to meet their commercial objectives, on time and within budget. “We hire the best. As a firm, we promote on merit, not time served,” he says.
