The Luxury Law Alliance has appointed leading luxury lawyer and professor Frederick Mostert as its President.
Frederick Mostert joins the fast-growing Luxury Law Alliance for its next stage of growth. An internationally recognised authority on intellectual property issues, Mr Mostert served as Chief Legal Counsel of luxury group Richemont, which includes Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels and Alfred Dunhill. He is currently a Visiting Professor at King’s College, London, a Research Fellow at the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre, University of Oxford and a Research Fellow at Peking University. "We are delighted that Frederick is on board to shape and develop the Luxury Law Alliance whose members now cover over 100 countries globally. He has been one of the forerunners of luxury law and his expertise will serve to develop and grow the Alliance,' editorial director Mary Heaney said of the appointment. Mr Mostert said he was delighted to accept the role at an exciting time for the organisation.
The founder of the Digital Communities Lab and the Digital Scholarship Foundation and a Past President of the International Trademark Association, Mr Mostert serves on the Advisory Council of the McCarthy Institute for Intellectual Property. He has also served on Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA’s Board, as well as the boards of Net-a-Porter and is currently an Advisor on Corporate Culture to the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). He is the principal author of "Famous and Well-Known Marks – An International Analysis” and “From Edison to iPod – Protect Your Ideas and Profit”. He was inducted into the Intellectual Property Hall of Fame in 2015.
Education and career
Mr Mostert was educated at Columbia University School of Law in New York City and the University of Johannesburg and is a member of the New York Bar and a solicitor of England and Wales. He has practised corporate law at Shearman and Sterling and international intellectual property law at Fross, Zelnick, Lehrman & Zissu in New York. He was awarded the Luxury Law Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
